New Wines at Benvenuto Brunello 2022

‘Benvenuto Brunello’, the Brunello di Montalcino Wine Consortium’s flagship event, will bring international wine experts and enthusiasts to Montalcino, Tuscany, from November 11.

Castiglion del Bosco was a founding member of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium in 1967, and is among the five largest producers of Brunello di Montalcino wine - one of the earliest Italian wines to achieve DOCG status, the highest classification of Italian wines.

The 31st edition of ‘Benvenuto Brunello’, will see the presentation of the new Brunello di Montalcino vintages, alongside other local wines with denomination of origin, to national and international press, operators, sommeliers and wine lovers. New vintages of Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, including the Brunello 2018, will make their debut before release on the market on January 1, 2023.

The Brunello 2018 has already received strong praise from renowned Italian wine critic, Luca Gardini, who described the wine as “a vintage of great finesse, delicacy and elegance” and recognised its quality with a score a 97+ in his recent appraisal.

Cecilia Leoneschi, the lead winemaker at Castiglion del Bosco said, “The 2018 vintage has been a challenge for both man and vines and the Brunello 2018 expresses all the peculiarity of this demanding vintage. In the glass, the wine is deep ruby red in color, on the nose it is intense and broad, showing off the typical notes of the denomination: small red berries, black cherries, with a hint of spices. The sip is complex and deep, with an elegant and refreshing finish, thanks to the excellent acidity.”

The 10-day event, scheduled to start on November 11, will be held at the Museum of St. Augustine in Montalcino, and for the first-time simultaneous editions of ‘Benvenuto Brunello’ will be held in in London, New York, Toronto and Los Angeles, showing the increasingly international appeal of the presentation of Brunello wines.

Fabrizio Bindocci, President of Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino, says: “We have decided to make our leading event even more cosmopolitan, starting from the main strategic markets for our appellation. It is no coincidence that the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom account for about half of the value exports of our production. The goal is to further strengthen the positioning of our fine wine abroad through events that maintain strong ties with Montalcino”.

‘Benvenuto Brunello’ also represents the perfect occasion on which to present the Leccio d'Oro award to exceptional restaurants and wine sellers, from Italy and around the world, that are recognised for their wide and representative range of Brunello di Montalcino.

The ‘Benvenuto Brunello’ edition in Montalcino will start on Friday, November 11, with the first day dedicated to national and international media. In the following days, sommeliers, sector operators, influencers, bloggers and wine lovers will have the opportunity to taste the new wines.
